Achilles Blog: Great Support equals Empowerment

Fam visiting grandpa in Antigua

The way you talk about yourself and your life—your story—has a great deal to do with what shows up in your day-to-day experience. Your thoughts create filters through which you view your life. If you think of yourself as a Victim, you filter all that happens to you through the lens of DDT, and you find plenty of evidence to support that viewpoint. That’s why the orientation you adopt is so important: it exerts a powerful influence on your life direction. - David Emerald

Its been a bit of time since I checked in with news on the recovery process with the rupture to my achilles. This is due mainly to the fact that I sometimes forget about it =). Not really, however the recovery process has gone extremely well. I'm a little shy of 4 months post operation. My treatment has consisted of visiting the folks at Austin Sports Therapy once a week. This session usually consist of some deep tissue massage work and ART. They also give me a few exercises to do on my own to restore range of motion and help restore proprioception.  On the training front, I have been routinely joining classes at Westlake Crossfit while making necessary adjustments to meet my current condition. Whatever I think I can do, I do a little less. I have noticed a bit of a hit to my metabolic conditioning and lower body strength. This was pretty tough to deal with initially, however the week before I left for vacation I could really sense things were coming back. In fact, yesterday I had my best training session in 4 months. It was the first time I did a WOD and didnt think about anything related to the achilles while doing dynamic movements that incorporate the lower body. Still on the road to recovery and it will be steady and well thought out. This great recovery process has very little to do with me but rather more to do with the incredible support, services and encouragement I've received from family and friends. Its amazing what a circle of empowering, motivated and supportive individuals can lead to. Oh yeah, and an amazing dog!
