Hunter Gatherer

Great article I read about one of the oldest and last standing Hunter Gatherer groups , the article has a deeper message I believe. Check it for yourself

The Hadza do not engage in warfare. They've never lived densely enough to be seriously threatened by an infectious outbreak. They have no known history of famine; rather, there is evidence of people from a farming group coming to live with them during a time of crop failure. The Hadza diet remains even today more stable and varied than that of most of the world's citizens. They enjoy an extraordinary amount of leisure time. Anthropologists have estimated that they "work"—actively pursue food—four to six hours a day. And over all these thousands of years, they've left hardly more than a footprint on the land. Traditional Hadza, like Onwas and his camp mates, live almost entirely free of possessions. The things they own—a cooking pot, a water container, an ax—can be wrapped in a blanket and carried over a shoulder. Hadza women gather berries and baobab fruit and dig edible tubers. Men collect honey and hunt. Nighttime baboon stalking is a group affair, conducted only a handful of times each year; typically, hunting is a solo pursuit. They will eat almost anything they can kill, from birds to wildebeest to zebras to buffalo. They dine on warthog and bush pig and hyrax. They love baboon; Onwas joked to me that a Hadza man cannot marry until he has killed five baboons. The chief exception is snakes. The Hadza hate snakes.Hadza camps are loose affiliations of relatives and in-laws and friends. Each camp has a few core members—Onwas's two sons, Giga and Ngaola, are often with him—but most others come and go as they please. The Hadza recognize no official leaders. Camps are traditionally named after a senior male (hence, Onwas's camp), but this honor does not confer any particular power. Individual autonomy is the hallmark of the Hadza. No Hadza adult has authority over any other. None has more wealth; or, rather, they all have no wealth. There are few social obligations—no birthdays, no religious holidays, no anniversaries. The Crossfit Method

Nutrition - lays the molecular foundation for health and wellness

Strength and Conditioning - builds capacity in each of the three metabolic pathways beginning with aerobic, lactic acid and phosphocreatine.

Gymnastics - establishes functional capacity for body control and range of motion

Olympic Weightlifting - develops the ability to control external objects and produce power

Sport - applies fitness in a competitive atmosphere with more randomized movements and skil

The CrossFit Method is to establish a hierarchy of effort and concern that builds upon itself.

Running Conditioning

(Westlake Crossfit member Bob Lindquist completed his 2nd Iron Man this past summer.)

We will be kicking off Westlake Crossfit Running conditioning Tuesday at 7:30 AM at Tremont Park. The address is 2818 Montebello Rd which is off Bee Caves Rd across from the Finish Line. Please feel free to bring a friend. You do not need to bring anything except water. This first week will be free to all that come. Please feel free to bring any friends or interested parties. Shoot me a phone call or text me if you have any questions or concerns call Jesse @ 512-680-7783. Get excited! I know several of you are running the Austin Marathon this year and this will cut down the amount of training you are doing significantly.

  • Increase your efficiency
  • Develop your endurance, strength, and stamina
  • Reduce injury potential
  • Improve your race times And decrease your training time

CrossFit training can get you to ultra-marathons and ironman distances in only 6-8 hours a week – compared to 15-20 plus hours with more traditional programs.

This is a supplemental program. You take this on in addition to your regular CrossFit/race training.

Kundalini Rising

Tonight I tried a new form of yoga known as Kundalini Yoga. This discipline of yoga focused on meditative and physical techniques used to awake consciousness and unblock energy flow. We used intense movements, meditation and breathing techniques to align the inner and outer body. This awakening was quit the experience , perhaps the most intense part was the feeling of increased energy vibration. Josh from Black Swan Yoga was an excellent instructor. This was a great experience , looking forward to next time.

Things I try and live by...

By Jevon

1. Live with purpose. A purpose driven life is the secret for fulfillment and helps fuel us with persistence.

2. Build your philosophies on solid principles. This will determine your attitude in life which in turn will determine your actions in life.

3. Find ways to contribute to those who need help.

4. Always Always be grateful for things you have.

5. Nourish your relationships. Often remind the people you care about just how important they are to you. Tell the people you love that you love them every chance you get. Most importantly show them!

6. Always think win/win. Synergy has the ability to create great things. when both parties feel their need are being met, the dynamic of the relationship tends to be empowering.

7. Take responsibility. True change can never come about until you first accept responsibility.

8. Don't be afraid to admit when your wrong. Too much pride can lead to destruction.

9. Avoid negative people and negative thoughts.

10. Listen more than you speak. Take the time to genuinely understand others and their perspective. Remember , we have all lived and have had experiences that shap our perceptions of things. Don't be so quick to throw your perception on others.

11. Laugh everyday!!! Find humor in things !!!

12. Be honest in your dealings. Honesty creates pure relationships with people and allows relationships to grow strong and fruitfull.

13. Be passionate in what you do. Life is filled with obstacles, if your not fueled with passion ..its very hard to have the strength and motivation to keep going when things get tough.

14. Forgive!!! We all make mistakes. Learn to forgive others and yourself for mistakes.

15. Be aware of the ego. The ego does everything in its power to keep us from our true self which holds unlimited love for us to share.

16. Don't wait for the "perfect time" Take a single step toward your goal. No matter how big or small..do whatever you can right now that will lead you in the direction of your dream.

17.Take care of your mind , body and soul.

18. Don't be so concerned with what others think that it becomes the prime motivator in your life. You will be trying to please everyone..this is impossible and lead to insecurity.

19. Commit to something bigger than yourself. Yes we are important and the things we do have tremendous purpose but lets not every forget that there is a higher power that we were created to fulfill His will.

20. Be proactive. The change you see in yourself and in the world..go out and be it!!!

21. Welcome challenges. Don't be discouraged by difficult situations , they provide ways for us to grow and become stronger.

22. Be childlike. Being childlike doesn't mean being childish..don't take yourself too seriously ..have fun ..ask questions...go explore and don't judge!!!

23. Don't live in the past...it's ok to look back into the past and recall great moments and to learn from mistakes but embrace the present and be excited for the future!!!

24. Be HAPPY with yourself !!....No amount of money..no relationship or any material thing will make you happy if we are not truly happy with ourselves. Only a true understanding and acceptance of who we really are can do so.

Out of Time

I've seen a ton of parkour videos , but this is by far the most entertaining one I've seen to date. It's unreal what the body is capable of doing ....unlimited potential for realz yo!
